NPCA offering restoration and water well decommissioning grants for 2023

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority would like to give you some money. The NPCA is seeking applications for its restoration and water well decommissioning grant programs for projects in 2023. Selected projects will help improve water quality and wildlife habitat as part of ongoing efforts to restore and preserve the Niagara Peninsula watershed’s natural heritage and water resources.

To continue improving water quality in the Red River basin, including downstream in Lake Winnipeg, the governments of Canada and the United States approved four additional water quality objectives to be monitored by the International Red River Watershed Board (IRRWB) following a recommendation by the International Joint Commission (IJC). These additional, non-regulatory water quality objectives are for the key nutrients phosphorus and nitrogen.

Montreal's master plan for making the city greener and more resistant to the negative impacts of climate change got a boost Monday, with a $117-million grant from the Quebec government to help Mayor Valérie Plante realize her administration's 10-year climate action plan. Environment Minister Benoit Charette and the minister responsible for the Montreal metropolis, Chantal Rouleau, made the announcement alongside Plante at the Centre for Sustainable Development, the province's first LEED Platinum building, on Sainte-Catherine Street in downtown Montreal.

Teck Doubles Water Treatment Capacity at Elkview Operations

Teck Resources Limited (TSX: TECK.A and TECK.B, NYSE: TECK) (“Teck”) Teck announced today that commissioning is now underway at its Elkview Saturated Rock Fill (Elkview SRF) expansion, which doubles the water treatment facility’s capacity to 20 million litres of water per day. The Elkview SRF has been achieving near complete removal of selenium and nitrate from up to 10 million litres of water per day since 2018 and is part of Teck’s ongoing work to implement the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan (EVWQP). The goal of the EVWQP is to maintain the health of the watershed in the area of Teck’s B.C. steelmaking coal operations.
