The City of Kawartha Lakes has experienced a significant increase in growth over the recent years.  The Water and Wastewater Servicing and Capacity Master Plan was initiated to identify the existing servicing constraints and provide a long-term water and wastewater servicing strategy that supports existing communities and growth to 2051 and beyond (ultimate buildout). The study will conform to provincial policies and legislation, Official Plan, Growth Management Strategy and other existing and ongoing planning initiatives.

The Greater Sudbury Watershed Alliance wants the northern Ontario city to stop building major roads near the city's watershed. The group says because arterial roads are legislated to be clear of snow between three to eight hours after a snowfall, the city has to use salt to reach that target. Smaller, less busy roads, though, don't have the same requirements in place, and the city can use sand for traction instead.

Environment and Climate Change Canada also made a submission proposing changes to the amendment sought over water quality monitoring and mitigation. "What is at stake is whether it's acceptable to put the environment in jeopardy because safeguarding the conditions are not easy for a project to comply with," said Saxby who has lived in Squamish since 2001. "If a project isn't able to comply with its conditions, it should not be able to continue."

The Town of The Blue Mountains has selected CIMA Canada Inc. to provide engineering services for the rehabilitation of the Victoria Street water tower. The town is planning for rehabilitation of the tower after an environmental assessment identified the best option was to reconstruct the tower. The work will include stripping the existing coating from the exterior and interior of the structure, exterior and interior steel repairs, interior lining upgrades and exterior coating upgrades.

The clock has started on the environmental assessment process for Northern Pulp's proposal to restart its beleaguered pulp and paper mill in Nova Scotia's Pictou County. Last week, the company filed a registration document with the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change, and on Tuesday the department formally registered the project.
