'Promising' P.E.I. hydroelectric project featured in new book about King Charles III

Major overhaul begins at OPG’s R.H. Saunders hydroelectric project

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has launched a 16-year overhaul of the 1045MW R.H. Saunders Generating Station, the second-largest hydroelectric project in Ontario, Canada. The project began in January, with the first of the station’s 16 units, G9, now fully disassembled, with refurbishment set to be completed by early 2024. The overhauls of the rest of the station’s units will occur each subsequent year until the project wraps up by around 2039.

Mistreatment of Innu people by colonial governments continues today, said an elder and activist who has fought for decades to protect the Innu's traditional culture and land in Labrador. "I will start on how we have been treated by the white man, and the treatment is still ongoing today," said Tshaukuesh (Elizabeth) Penashue, on Thursday when she began her testimony at an inquiry examining how Innu children and families have been affected by the child protection system.
