'It's just time for some new experiences': Iqaluit CAO Amy Elgersma resigns from city

Elgersma moved to the city in 1999 and began work as a lifeguard at the swimming pool at the Frobisher Inn, then worked her way up into youth programming and to director of recreation. In the four years Elgersma held the position as CAO, the city saw a number of disasters, like when Iqaluit's biggest store, Northmart, caught fire, and several water emergencies. "There's definitely been some some challenges," she said.

Blue-green algae takes over many Alberta lakes as hot weather returns this week: ‘It smells like sewage’

With another hot week in store for much of Alberta, many people are getting out to try to soak up and enjoy the remaining days of summer. With that, many will flock to nearby lakes to spend time at the beach. But several of Alberta’s lakes have been taken over by blue-green algae this summer, including Garner Lake where Harold Kinasewich calls home. Kinasewich has had a family property on Sunrise Beach since the 1950s. Now semi-retired, he lives at the lake and it’s a place where he spends a lot of quality time with his kids and grandkids.

Castor council talks about increasing water bills

Castor town council discussed increasing water bills with the goal of helping their water department break even. The discussion was held during the Nov. 8 regular meeting of council. The discussion began when Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Christopher Robblee gave the regular gas/water report. The CAO stated the water balance was still high for September but there was some good news for councillors: the water loss in October was only 900 metres cubed, which was down “substantially” from the month before.

Clive village council set the date for a town hall type meeting to offer information to the public about the municipality’s membership in a major water commission. The decision was made at the Aug. 16 regular meeting of council. Village Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Carla Kenney presented councillors with a memo requesting they pick a date for the public information session for the Hwy. #12/21 Water Commission town hall meeting.
