Kristen Villebrun and Wendy Bush hoped they wouldn't have to pray for Chedoke Creek, but four years after they first raised alarm about the water's condition, they were part of an Indigenous full moon ceremony to do just that. About 50 people showed up near Princess Point on the dark and frigid Monday evening for the monthly ceremony, which was particularly special as it focused on Chedoke Creek. The body of water that runs into Cootes Paradise had about 24 billion litres of sewage and storm water runoff leak into it due to a gate being left open.
With a recent donation in Quebec, Labatt Breweries of Canada has donated more than a million cans of water to support communities with 24 distributions in seven provinces over 11 years. Established in 2012, Labatt's Canadian Disaster Relief Program was created to provide safe drinking water to Canadian communities experiencing disasters such as flooding, forest and wildfires, environmental spills, drought and ice storms that compromised a community's water supply.
Toronto’s homeless are getting some Labatt Breweries of Canada products. But it’s not beer — it’s canned drinking water. Make that 223,000 cans of drinking water in six truckloads to help the city in its COVID-19 relief efforts. The canned water will go to the Toronto Drop-In Network and its Streets to Home Program. Labatt says most daytime drop-in providers are now offering takeout meals so there is a high demand for single-use, portable drinks.
