Operation Water Spirit - Safe Drinking Water Foundation


	Canadian Teachers are Waiting for Over 1,800 Sponsored Kits to be Sent to their Schools Canadian teachers are currently waiting for over 1,800 sponsored Operation Water Drop, Operation Water Pollution and Operation Water Biology kits to be sent to their schools. Individuals and companies can sponsor kits for schools. If you/your company sponsors kits, you/your company will be acknowledged in the letter that accompanies the kit. You can even decide in which geographic area your kits will be dispersed or to which specific school(s). Please e-mail info@safewater.org if you would like to sponsor Operation Water Drop, Operation Water Pollution and/or Operation Water Biology kits or if you would like more information.

	Need Sponsored Kits? If you would like to use the Operation Water Drop, Operation Water Pollution and/or Operation Water Biology program in your classroom and need a sponsored kit please e-mail the following information to info@safewater.org: your school's name, complete mailing address, what type(s) of kits and how many of each type of kit you would like. We will add your school to the growing waiting list. Also, be sure to sign up on the Imagineaction website (a program of the Canadian Teachers' Federation) in order to try to get sponsored kits through Imagineaction funding (www.imagine-action.ca).

	Operation Water Spirit (OWS) OWS is a collection of thematic units and lesson plans which will reinforce Aboriginal culture and perspectives regarding water for Aboriginal students while at the same time provide an Aboriginal perspective to non-Aboriginal students about water issues. OWS is available in English and in Cree. Expectations of Program OWS invites teachers to encourage classroom discussions to enable students to gain a closer understanding of Aboriginal issues and perspectives surrounding drinking water. Students will learn that not everyone has safe drinking water and Aboriginal people are the greatest protectors of our environment, encouraging the need for water conservation and source water protection. Expectations of Teachers To present OWS in an open and caring atmosphere, to encourage students to view Aboriginal issues by “walking in their moccasins” for the duration of these lessons. Expectations of Students To be receptive to new perspectives, and to leave all racial prejudice behind. End Goals A closer relationship and understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. Cost Lesson plans are available free of charge online.
